Experience the dramatic darkness of the night sky in the Heart of the Pine Barrens with a guided sky tour by the Willingboro Astronomical Society. More than a dozen telescopes will be set up to view the stars, planets and other celestial phenomena, but bring your binoculars, too!

Hunterdon's Land & Food Film Festival
Three area non-profit groups sponsored the Land & Food Film Festival in 2008: The Delaware River Mill Society, the Hunterdon Land Trust and New Jersey Conservation Foundation. Five films were offered monthly from May to October 2008. All films were free to the members of the sponsoring organizations and also open to the public.
Films shown were:
"King Corn" - Wednesday, May 14.
The documentary film "King Corn" presents a balanced look at the complex issues of how much corn we grow and its pervasiveness in every aspect of our food chain. The film reveals the cause and effect of our farmers growing more food in our nation’s history with less family farms. The film explores the fact that the cost of our food consumes less of our income then ever before and takes less effort to purchase and prepare. Conversely, obesity has become a national issue as well other health issues that relate directly to our American diet.
"Pollen Nation" - Wednesday, June 11, at Prallsville Mills, Route 29, Stockton –
"Pollen Nation." This film by Singeli Agnew and Joshua Fisher explores the collapse of bee colonies needed to pollinate food crops, explaining why it has become harder for beekeepers to keep their colonies alive and how this could effect our food supply.
Two films "Beyond Organic" and "What Will We Eat?" Friday, July 11, at Hunterdon County Library, Flemington. "Beyond Organic" by John DeGraaf tells the story of Michael Ableman's amazing farm and its long battle to survive in the face of rapid suburban development. "What Will We Eat?" by Chris Belford is a primer on the local food movement.
“Future of Food.” Friday, Aug. 8, at Hunterdon County Library, Flemington - "Future of Food." This film by Deborah Koons Garcia provides an overview of key questions raised by consumers as they decide whether to buy genetically modified foods. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, advocating organic and sustainable agriculture as solutions to the farm crisis today.
“The Meaning of Food,” produced by Sue McLaughlin. Friday, Oct. 10. This film takes a survey of the relationship between food and culture by focusingon American eating patterns and traditions. World-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson travels across America to meet with individuals from a variety of ethnic backgrounds to gauge their culinary attitudes and practices.
Representatives of the three sponsoring groups will serve as moderators for the film discussions to follow immediately after the screenings.
